Cobbs Allen Welcomes Brian Butler to the Team


Cobbs Allen is pleased to announce the addition of Brian Butler to our corporate office beginning January 2018. Brian will join our Employee Benefits team as Senior Account Executive and Public Administration Practice Group Leader. In this role, Brian will consult with municipality, county, and other public administration clients, as well as oversee the service team for this niche practice group.

Brian joins Cobbs Allen with over 20 years’ experience in human resources, most recently as the Chief Human Resources Officer for the City of Tuscaloosa in Alabama. Brian is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and an International Public Management Association for Human Resources Certified Professional (IPMA-CP).

As a long serving leader in the municipal HR field, he brings with him expertise and experience of providing direction in the areas of employee relations, recruiting, compensation and classification, benefits and wellness, human resource information systems (HRIS), time and attendance systems, worker's compensation, workplace safety and risk management, leave management, performance management, staff development and EEO, FMLA, ADA, FLSA and other federal & state employment regulations compliance.

In addition, Brian has served as an Associate Trainer for Strata Leadership and an instructor for Auburn University’s Government & Economic Development Institute. He has also developed and taught various human resources-related topics including How to Write Effective Employee HandbooksImplementing Successful Performance Appraisal SystemsDeveloping Pay Plans That Work, and How to Influence the Character and Culture of Your Organization and has been a frequent speaker at the state association level on multiple HR topics.

His civic leadership and involvement include serving as a member and past chairman of the Tuscaloosa Veterans Memorial Park Association, Board Member and Treasurer of the Tuscaloosa Character Council, Gideon of the Black Warrior Camp, and Member of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama Veterans Affairs Committee.

Brian is also a Captain in the Navy Reserve and is a veteran of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, having completed multiple extended tours of duty in the Middle East.

We are excited to welcome Brian to the Cobbs Allen family, and we look forward to his experience and knowledge lending to our further involvement in the public administration space.
