The Exceptional Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization where more than 640 individuals with special needs come each year to enjoy social and recreational activities. Programs are scheduled for individuals age 21 and older, who no longer find opportunities for social interaction within the school system, as well as after-school and summer programs for school-aged individuals.

CEO and President Tricia Kirk has known Billy Blair, Cobbs Allen risk consultant, since their high school days.

“When Tricia became the Executive Director, she came to me with her insurance questions,” Billy said. “Cobbs Allen has enjoyed a solid working and personal relationship with Tricia and her staff of dedicated professionals since their early days. She knows that she can call me day or night (and has on numerous occasions) with her insurance questions.”

The foundation’s daily programs include field trip outings, competitive sports teams and various social events. Through their services, The Exceptional Foundation aims to enhance the lives of its participants and to provide a community for individuals with special needs and their families.

In addition to helping manage their risks, Cobbs Allen particularly enjoys one of the participants’ annual field trips—Christmas caroling around Birmingham businesses. I dare you not to smile watching this video from their 2017 Christmas visit to Cobbs Allen.

We have also enthusiastically sponsored The Exceptional Foundation’s Chili Cook-Off for many years. This event, put on by their Junior Board and highly beloved in Birmingham, is The Exceptional Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year.

“I first became involved with the Exceptional Foundation when I volunteered at the Chili Cook-Off when I was in middle school,” said Nelson Bean, Cobbs Allen Benefits Consultant and The Exceptional Foundation Junior Board member. “Upon graduation from college, I wanted to become involved with an organization in our community that has a positive impact on people’s lives—the first place that came to my mind was the Exceptional Foundation. The work that they do on a day-to-day basis with their participants is truly inspiring.”

Cobbs Allen is a proud sponsor of the Chili Cook-Off, and we’re hopeful that our team’s chili will bring home the gold! Be sure to stop by our tent at the event on March 3 at Brookwood Village. We’re getting a head start on St. Patty’s Day, so look for our “Pot of Chili at the End of the Rainbow” and Cobbs Allen associates wearing green!
